Director Of Communications And Knowledge Management (Nigeria)

The Director of Communication and Knowledge Management will lead the overall communications strategy of FHI Nigeria with the Nigerian government and other local and international decision makers, donors, partners, and key stakeholders. The Director will actively manage relationships with key stakeholders for FHI Nigeria especially in communicating FHI strategies on partnership and sustainability of USAID-funded public health interventions. She/He will lead communication of achievernents and capabilities of FHI in public health and lead strategic behavior change communications in all program areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • lead, design and coordinate programs and initiatives related to dissemination and llse of knowledge acquired by FHI, consortiuni partners and national/international stakeholders
  • Provide technical support to partners and beneficiaries to develop their capacity in information and knowledge management
  • Strengthen FHI Nigeria's communications links and relations with key partners. including federal and state leve! governments, agencies, key private sector partners and other stakeholders in public health
  • Disseminate information on and support the implementation of FHl's strategy of sustaining public health programs through capacity enhancement and local partnerships with government and other key stakeholders
  • Develop and direct strategy for engagement with rnas~ media to promote public health messages in relation to FHI programs through various platforms including broadcast and interactive media
  • With the technical teams, develop and sustain a publications and documentation program for technical and programmatic documentation for documenting lessons from GHAIN and other FHI programs
  • Support capacity development of the technical teams in writing and documentation
  • Represent FHI with key federal and state level decision makers and policy makers and contribute to the development and implementation of FHI's and USAID's strategy for sustaining donor-funded health programs by transltioning to government and public-private partnership initiatives
  • In collaboration with government partners, lead the development and implementation of behavior change communication for FHI's program interventions
  • Identify areas to improve targeting of strategic behavior change messages within the national and state level HIV/AIDS and other disease/public health programs and provide appropriate solutions to address gaps
  • Liaise with stakeholders, relevant research institutions and government organizations and network with project partners and other agencies to strengthen the documentation and dissemination agenda
  • Contribute to documentation on core technical issues (HIV/ AIDS, sexual and reproductive health, TB, malaria, cardio-vascular diseases) by the technical and programs departments

Key Requirements

  • Broad management and team building experience, preferably with USAID programs in developing countries
  • Ability to develop and foster relationships with donors, governments, donor-funded implementers and other organizations
  • Experience in overall supervision of training and capacity building programs
  • Supervisory and/or management work experience, Including direct supervision of professional and support staff, evaluation of staff performance and deliverables
  • Leadership in management skills and ability to lead and motivate multidlsciplinary, multicultural teams
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with USAID, ministry officals, and other development partners
    Experience in deveioping and communicating a project Vision, aligning key stakeholders around the vision, and assuring the vision is translated into an efficiently implemented program
  • Excellent analytical, writing, communication and presentation skills
  • Willingness to travel within Nigeria
  • Experience working in Africa, previous experience in Nigeria and strong knowledge of the Nigenan health context (systems strengthening priorities/needs) are strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of language(s) spoken in Nigeria is a plus

Education

  • BS/BA in communication or related field and 11-13 years relevant experience in international development programs with 5-7 years supervisory experience
  • MS/MA in communication or related field, and 9- 11 years relevant experience in international development programs, with 5-7 years supervisory experience
  • PhD, MD or equivalent degree with 7-9 years relevant experience in international development programs and 5-7 years of supervisory experience
